FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions ...or rather 'Frequently Made Excuses' Below are questions you may have or excuses that may shoot to the surface of your mind as you consider embarking on a mission like this to find your ideal career. We're all busy, we all have lots on. Reasons why you can't invest the time to do something important are very easy to come up with. And they stop us in our tracks. I recommend you browse these below to see what I have to say about them. How can I get the best from the GCE? If the GCE is free, what's the catch? Can I get involved on the project? I don't have enough time or energy to work through this I don't like working from my computer I don't want to work with others on this - I want to do it on my own Why can't I just use a careers test or survey to find my ideal career? I'd rather just use a careers coach to help me I hate job hunting
You're best off working through the GCE on your own laptop or desktop rather than in the office. You need a modern browser for the site to function properly (it doesn't work well in IE 6) and you'll be invited to download some software. Given the nature of the content of the course too, it's advisable to work on it in your own time away from work.
Me. Mark Moore. I like to think of myself as 'just a bloke, from the UK who now lives in Australia'. But I'm also Director of Excelerated Performance International. You can read more about me here. If the GCE is free, what's the catch? There's no such thing as a free lunch is there? Someone has to pay. At this stage, The Great Career Escape is entirely free to you (and anyone who signs up until I say otherwise). I'm the one who's paying for you. I've paid with my own money, to create the project, build and host the website, I've paid for running costs, I've paid by the hours, weeks and months it's taken me to design and build the e-course, and I've paid in my years of experience learning and working with others in the area of increasing people's career performance. I've paid in time, money and sweat, because I want to see you join me in working in your ideal career. I've been through what you're going through, and I would have jumped on an opportunity like this if it existed when I most needed it. There's no catch for you. But I may in time introduce paid membership for future sign ups. That won't affect you if you've signed up. I'm not sure when, so get in while you can. But...you could help me... Because I do pay for ongoing running costs, and spend a lot of my time and effort working alongside you, answering questions, giving advice etc, it would certainly mean a lot to me if you were happy to donate whatever you want, if you like my work. It means that I'll get a sense of the value I'm providing you. Most careers services out there cost a lot. I'm offering a free, and I believe higher value and more up to date alternative. You can do that via PayPal here if you like. This means it will keep the project alive! If you don't want to donate, you can help me in other ways... I'd really appreciate you recruiting more people to the community who you think might find it useful. Invite your friends along and increase the value that way. Or see below if you want to add value in other ways... Can I get involved on the project? I'd love as much help as I can get. If you'd like to get involved in working with me on the project, then I'd love to have volunteers get involved. Perhaps you have a talent or area in which you can add value? Maybe you're a graphic designer, or have web design skills? Whatever your idea to add value, contact me and let me know. It might provide a great chance to showcase your work too, and you'll be a part of an exciting large project. I don't have enough time or energy to work through this You have the same 24 hours as the rest of us. It's how you're prioritising using it that matters. Yes, you're probably busy and overwhelmed. Who isn't? But the point of this is to create a lifestyle that your work enables that leaves you no longer overwhelmed. You're going to spend some time and effort to free your time and make things easier and more enjoyable for you. That means you'l need to manage yourself well to make progress. It's a challenge for most of us who spend our time reacting to what bombards us. But I'll help you create the space in your schedule to drive this forwards, so long as you check in with me. The truth is, you could work through this e-course for 10 minutes per day, over a few months. You'd get there. Or you could dedicate just one weekend of your life aside to storm through it. It just depends on how driven you are to progress through. And that is determined by how frustrated you are in your current career. If you're not prepared to put the time and effort in, then your problem can't be so bad after all. The only other option I'd suggest is to live with it! I don't like working from my computer Then you're going to struggle moving ahead in any field these days! I appreciate reading from a screen isn't for everyone. Which is why I'm gradually rolling out videos and audio. You can put the audio on your iPod and listen to the lessons and do your exercises off screen if you like. Or you can print out the lessons and read elsewhere. Or, you can even access the site easily on your iPhone or mobile device. The site is optimised for these too. I think that covers all bases and means you can work away from your computer if you really want :-) I don't want to work with others on this - I want to do it on my own Fine. You can. But you'll be at the mercy of your own thinking and ideas. You may still make it. But often your ideal career is an idea that someone else has. The more people you form connections with, the more brains you can pick and the more ideas and suggestions you'll get outside of your own. Also you'll generate buzz between each other, and more energy. You'll probably find that you check in more often to the site just to chat to each other and see how each other are getting along. I highly recommend using today's technology to hook up with people around the world and get their input. They'll be able to see what makes you tick as you move through the course and make suggestions you never knew existed. And share their contacts too. Your choice.
